Alternatives to Medicine and Therapy

In today’s society, many are turning to alternative treatments for traditional medical issues. People are turning to acupuncture, homeopathy, massage and meditation among other methods; however there is much uncertainty around these techniques so it’s best to consult your doctor first for advice and discuss them with someone knowledgeable.

Alternative medical therapies have become a significant component of modern healthcare and have seen an uptick in recent years. While often viewed as natural and holistic alternatives to conventional medicines, alternative approaches may prove beneficial for some patients.

One of the greatest advantages of alternative medicine is that it addresses the root cause of a person’s issue rather than simply relies on symptoms to solve it. For instance, instead of prescribing pain killers or anti-inflammatory drugs to mask symptoms, chiropractors are trained in finding and healing the source of your discomfort from within.

Studies have suggested that chiropractic and other alternative practices can be effective, however they may also come with side effects. This is because no single treatment method works perfectly for everyone.

According to a study by the National Cancer Institute, people who used alternative therapies were generally older, had low incomes and rated their self-rated health lower than those who didn’t. Furthermore, they were more likely to be dissatisfied with conventional medicine and less trust in its system of care.

Some alternative therapies, like acupuncture, are considered safe while others have yet to be proven effective. Reiki for instance relies on the belief that you possess a life force energy which flows throughout your body. It’s an energy healing practice in which therapists move their hands back and forth over your body in order to balance this flow and boost overall wellbeing.

Alternative medicine often utilizes plant parts to treat diseases or ailments. This could include juicing or eating herbs, drinking teas made from specific plants, and taking supplements containing the herb itself.

Research has demonstrated the beneficial effects of this practice for certain diseases, such as reducing inflammation and anxiety.

Alternative therapy often includes therapeutic touch, also known as “healing touch.” In this practice, therapists use their hands to detect and correct imbalances in an individual’s energy field. Studies have even found that it can reduce anxiety levels and promote feelings of well-being for some cancer patients.

A recent study reveals that people are increasingly turning to alternative therapies for health treatment. The survey of 1035 people in the United States revealed that 89% of respondents used some type of alternative therapy during the past year, with the top reasons being pain relief, improved health and quality of life, and treating specific diseases.
