If you have a passion for music and an interest in helping people, music therapy could be the perfect career for you. TWU offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in this field of study.

You can become a board-certified music therapist (MT) by completing an equivalency program and internship at TWU. This two year program covers all the undergraduate coursework necessary for a bachelor’s degree, plus AMTA competencies and clinical internship requirements. It typically takes 5 semesters (not including summers) to complete this coursework.

TWU’s Music Therapy Department specializes in performance, education and music therapy as well as having an impressive research program. The faculty members are active members of the Texas music therapy community and have made significant contributions to its growth and development.

Students enrolled in the MPT program possess a broad range of interests, experiences and career options. They are prepared to work in various fields such as healthcare, private practice, rehabilitation facilities or hospice care, among others.

The undergraduate Music Therapy (MT) program at TWU is accredited by the American Music Therapy Association and offers advanced study in music, human development/family studies, as well as healthcare administration. Through courses covering critical thinking, leadership skills, advocacy strategies, and music therapy topics, TWU strives to give its students an integrative approach towards professional preparation.

Graduates of TWU’s Music Therapy program are board-certified and qualified for a range of careers in music therapy. Many take advantage of TWU’s proximity to Dallas during their clinical internships, but can find employment in many states across the nation.
