Since the sound of the meditation gong is healing, the volume is never raised to an uncomfortable level. This practice is sometimes referred to as a “gong bath,” because participants are “bathed” in meditation gong sound waves. In this case, the perception of sounds is not used as therapy, but as an anchor to which the mind can return. Wearing up comfortably and warmly and letting yourself be surrounded by resonating noises must be the perfect way to relax.

Gong baths often start with guided meditation or subtle sounds that lead to the playing of gongs around you.

What does a gong bath do for you?

Sound baths can also help reduce stress, anxiety and depression and help with signs of fatigue. The acoustic stimuli of the gong bath lead to entrainment, a form of positively altered brainwave frequencies. Select the recording or live gong session that you want to listen to and adjust your headphones or speakers so that you can hear the audio. While a modern sound bath won’t cure you of a cold, studies suggest that it has certain physical and mental health benefits.

During a sound bath, participants typically lie on the floor while a practitioner plays various sounds with various musical instruments to give participants a relaxing, meditative experience.
