Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta Offers Music Therapy Services

Music therapy has the potential to promote physical, emotional and cognitive wellbeing. Studies have demonstrated that it reduces anxiety and stress while improving quality of life for those suffering from mental illnesses, developmental or physical disabilities. Through music therapy individuals with these conditions may gain or maintain control over their lives.

At Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta, our interdisciplinary team of music therapists offers creative therapeutic interventions to a variety of patients/clients. We use evidence-based music therapy techniques to deliver comprehensive care to the whole patient, promoting maximum recovery and helping each individual reach their highest level of functioning.

Music therapy seeks to nurture a child’s unique potential in order to reach personal objectives. These may include language and self-expression, motor coordination, academic skills, social communication, sensory integration, coping strategies and more.

At our hospital, daycare centers and community locations, we offer comprehensive music therapy services to children and adolescents. Our group and individual music sessions are age appropriate, interactive, and creative.

Our clinicians are highly-trained in music therapy and possess extensive experience working with children, adults and families. They are passionate about providing high quality care to all who require it, while relishing the challenge of bringing new ideas to life through our diverse patient population.

Maryville University’s music therapy program has been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and approved by the American Music Therapy Association. Our clinicians work with children and adolescents with a variety of needs, such as mental illness, dementia, autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities and physical conditions.

In addition to Maryville University’s onsite music therapy program, music therapists work in hospitals and healthcare facilities throughout the region. Here they collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to address patients’ individual needs as well as those of their families.

Music therapy can be an invaluable aid to manage pain, nausea and fatigue. It may also reduce anxiety and depression, enhance quality of life and boost a patient’s sense of well-being.

Research has demonstrated the beneficial effects of music therapy on patients with cancer and other illnesses, which can last long-term and affect multiple aspects of a patient’s wellbeing. Studies have demonstrated that music therapy improves sleep, reduces fatigue, relieves pain and anxiety, boosts morale and develops coping strategies.

At our organization, we are dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare services for patients, their families and staff in a secure and welcoming atmosphere. Our mission is to guarantee that every child has the opportunity to thrive in such an environment; ultimately, our hope is to make a difference for each patient as they navigate their journey towards healing and health.

Our Music Therapists strive to create an atmosphere of compassion and caring in their clinical practices, using music as a tool to aid patients’ healing – physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. In addition to direct patient care, our therapists also contribute their talents by programming for local hospitals and organizations.
