“Couples Therapy” – A One-Hour Documentary Special

A one-hour documentary special explores the ups and downs of treating high maintenance New York couples with a specialist.

Making a documentary as complex and captivating as “Couples Therapy” requires considerable effort. Not only does the show present remote therapists with some serious obstacles in their pursuit of success, but it also features an impressive cast of compelling personalities, from highly visible to downright creepy.

The biggest challenge was selecting which couples to include, and how to get them to open up about their private lives honestly without it becoming an exercise in futility. One solution was drawing upon three experienced documentarians – Eli B. Despres, Elyse Steinberg and Josh Kriegman – co-creators of award-winning “Weiner,” to craft a show that blurred the line between fiction and reality.

After months and weeks of highs and lows, we now have a show that not only provides viewers with an engaging on-air show but also an intriguing glimpse into the minds and hearts of four courageous patients, their unsuspecting therapist, as well as those behind the camera. What’s even more remarkable is that all these stories were filmed using only a small crew, with occasional guest appearances for added interest.
