Dan Harris’s Panic Attack and How Meditation Can Save Your Life
Are you struggling with anxiety or panic attacks and wondering if there’s any hope? Fortunately, there is. In this episode of the Verywell Mind Podcast, ABC news correspondent Dan Harris shares his story of experiencing a panic attack live on-air and how meditation helped him combat it.
Harris worked as a journalist for 21 years, covering war zones and other difficult stories for ABC News. His exposure to traumatic events caused him to develop depression and turn to substance use to cope.
After returning to the US, Harris struggled with chronic anxiety and depression. After consulting a doctor, who diagnosed him with clinical depression and prescribed antidepressants, Harris also started partying and using hard drugs in an effort to manage his stress.
Harris’ on-air panic attack ultimately spurred him to seek professional assistance and make lifestyle adjustments. He eventually tried meditation, then wrote the best-selling book 10% Happier as a testament to his experience.
On this episode, we’ll dive into some of Harris’ book topics and how they have shaped his life. He also shares his journey towards self-love and why practicing loving-kindness meditation is so beneficial for everyone.
On this week’s Verywell Mind Podcast, we’ll explore how meditation can help you conquer anxiety and panic attacks, beat addiction, and take control of your life. We’ll hear from a range of experts and people who have made positive changes in their lives – including Amy Morin LCSW.
