Group sessions can also employ behavioral chain analysis, which involves dissecting a given behavior or situation into smaller components to identify triggers and craft strategies for using DBT skills in the future. This technique has proven particularly successful at decreasing self-destructive behaviors like suicidal thoughts or self-harming tendencies.
A DBT therapist consultation team is another essential element of a successful DBT treatment program. Its purpose is to keep therapists motivated and competent so they can provide their patients with the highest quality treatment. Generally, this team consists of therapists, skills therapists, and case managers.
The DBT consultation team is led by an experienced therapist and typically meets at least once a week. This group offers a safe space for therapists to share their concerns and insights regarding the practice of DBT.
DBT therapists can incorporate music into their treatment by playing a specially created set of music activities designed for this purpose. The therapist may often play these music-based DBT activities during sessions and offer feedback to members on their performance.
