EMDR Therapy Denver
Are you struggling with anxiety, depression or trauma? Our therapists can help. Our approach incorporates traditional talk therapy techniques as well as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).
Treatment consists of a series of sessions that address the emotional toll of traumatic events and negative thought patterns. Your therapist will use eye movements, tapping, and other methods to stimulate your brain in order to reprocess memory in a new light.
Are you suffering from PTSD, an event that caused trauma, or another chronic condition such as addiction? Our Denver EMDR therapists work together with you to identify and eliminate the source of your suffering.
After experiencing a life-altering event such as a car accident or losing someone you love, you may struggle to manage your emotions and reactions to triggers that remind you of the experience. You may feel like you have no control over your life or that you don’t comprehend why it happened to you. If this describes what has happened to you, reach out for support and understanding from those closest to you.
We will begin by taking a detailed history of your symptoms and past traumas, then assess if you are an appropriate candidate for EMDR therapy. The initial session usually lasts an hour.
Our therapist will then guide you through EMDR steps. They’ll ask you to focus on the memories causing you distress, then assess how each one affects you emotionally. Afterward, bilateral stimulation – eye movements, taps or tones – will stimulate the brain in an attempt to release these memories associated with trauma and modify thoughts associated with that memory.
After each memory, your therapist will ask you to rate the intensity of negative thoughts and feelings as well as any body sensations triggered by it. At the end of each step, they can help create a positive belief to replace any negative ones you experienced.
With just a few sessions, you may be able to transform your beliefs and bring them into reality – allowing you to move forward with life.
EMDR has proven effective for treating a range of psychological issues, such as depression, anxiety, phobias and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). With its proven success rate in helping clients overcome trauma and other obstacles that were holding them back from achieving their objectives, EMDR continues to gain widespread acceptance as an effective treatment option.
Your therapist will collaborate with you to identify a customized set of EMDR treatment targets that address your unique issues. Furthermore, they will teach you how to access these targets independently between sessions.
Research has established EMDR therapy as one of the most effective approaches to trauma treatment, backed by years of research. It offers a safe, non-invasive solution that can heal from trauma experiences and other problems that have been holding you back from living the life you desire. Furthermore, EMDR therapy effectively reduces re-traumatization and dissociation caused by memories associated with trauma.
