Holistic Bowl Therapy

Holistic bowl therapy is a form of sound healing that utilizes the sounds of crystal or singing bowls to help people relax and de-stress. Not only that, but this form of sound healing also has been known to boost immunity levels and improve circulation.

Singing bowls, also referred to as Himalayan or Tibetan singing bowls, are bell-like objects that emit a deep tone when struck. Typically made from metal alloys or quartz crystal, they’re now widely used in meditation and wellness practices today.

Over millennia, sacred texts have spoken of the healing powers of sound to transform and heal humans. Yogic philosophy holds that bowls are used to balance chakras and encourage spiritual development by using specific sound vibrations.

Yoga therapists and other health practitioners use the sounds of singing bowls to activate our bodies’ inherent capacity for healing themselves. Additionally, they believe that these sounds bring us into a state of deep relaxation and harmony.

According to a study published in the International Journal of Clinical Practice, those who experienced sound baths reported improved relaxation abilities as well as lower anxiety and stress levels as well as an alteration in heart rate.

This study is an important confirmation of the healing properties of sound therapy. However, there are a few things you should be aware of before trying this healing method for yourself.

Before participating in holistic bowl therapy, be sure to discuss it with your healthcare practitioner. Certain illnesses and conditions, such as epilepsy, may preclude taking part in sound therapy sessions.

Make sure your therapist knows if you have any medical conditions that could impact your experience, such as chronic pain or an ongoing health issue. Furthermore, remember that there is no guarantee that listening to singing bowls will have any beneficial effect on either physical or mental wellbeing.

At a session of holistic bowl therapy, your instructor will use the bowls to play notes that harmonize with specific parts of the body. This helps bring about a deep state of relaxation known as delta state, which is essential for healing and cellular repair.

Studies have demonstrated that playing the bowls can induce a relaxing state within 15 minutes, which is faster than traditional meditation techniques which may take hours to achieve.

Research into the effects of sound and its various forms has been done, yet few studies have focused on the neurophysiological correlates. Therefore, this study is the first to investigate these effects through a singing bowl sound massage intervention. Results indicate a significant impact on overall EEG power – particularly within beta 2 and gamma frequency bands, reflecting an shift towards greater mindfulness in consciousness.
