Hospitals in Ca With Art Therapy

In recent years, hospitals across the country have adopted research that shows creative arts and expressive therapies can aid healing processes. These therapies help patients reduce stress, develop coping skills and enhance emotional wellbeing.

Some hospitals in CA even provide art therapy services for patients at their bedside. These sessions are led by an art therapist trained in using creative arts and expressive therapies to meet children’s needs.

At the Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Institute in Austin, Texas, staff members can refer a patient to an art therapist for a session. The therapist may work with the patient on either a one-time or multiple session basis.

This program’s therapists possess a master’s degree in art therapy and are licensed to practice in Texas. Furthermore, they are members of the American Art Therapy Association.

They are specially trained in helping children, adolescents and families express feelings that may be difficult for them verbally. By employing various art materials and techniques, these professionals encourage patients to explore their emotions, process events and gain self-awareness.

There are programs that enable adults to express themselves creatively through therapeutic art making and connect with other hospital patients and caregivers. For instance, Marnie’s Studio hosts art therapists every Monday from 10 a.m. until noon for those interested in connecting with other hospital parents and caregivers in a supportive atmosphere.

Recent research from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles has demonstrated that art therapy can make patients feel better. They found that art therapists can relax patients and help them manage their pain by encouraging them to express their emotions through artwork creation.

The program is run by eight staff members employed by the hospital with grant funds. They use art and music to give patients a sense of connection and reduce stress levels, working closely with medical and nursing staff members to address patients’ needs. Furthermore, they offer non-clinical services like art workshops or theater performances for added entertainment value.
