What is a singing bowl used for?

It has been suggested that singing bowls are similar to other forms of sound therapy and that the sounds and vibrations of the bowls help to put people in a more meditative state. During singing bowl treatment, you lie on the floor while the bowls are placed in various configurations. Either you or a practitioner tap the bowl with a hammer and then use the hammer to turn the bowl over at different pressures and speeds. It is important to note that although Tibetan singing bowls are often used for these purposes, research is still needed to determine what effect they actually have.
