The gong reminds you that you were never really disturbed, but that you simply forgot your peace and quiet. Experience a deeply relaxing gong meditation to reduce stress, calm your nervous system, and find inner peace. In these classes, you’ll sit back and get comfortable, put on an eye mask to block out the peripheral light and gradually open yourself up to the healing vibrations. Johanna works with the wisdom of the gong to help her own energy system release tension, calm the nervous system and release blockages.

Sound baths are a form of vibrational healing.

What does gong therapy do?

The benefits of being exposed to the sounds of the gongs are numerous, but vary significantly. The deep sounds and vibrations of the gong vary depending on the size of the instrument, the mallets used, and the player’s style. There is nothing to learn, no skills to acquire. This is why the gong is an ideal experience for people who find it difficult to switch off or meditate. In addition to deep relaxation and reduced stress levels, participants report on a number of benefits and experiences of the cultivation energy, such as strong emotions — from joy to tears —, floating, bright lights, powerful, colorful images, and more.

On arrival, yoga mats were spread around the studio and there were two large gongs in front of the room.

How long does a gong bath last?

The gong pool I went to is run by Patricia at SonicSoul and takes place every first Saturday of the month at Energy For Life Yoga %26 Functional Fitness in Kemptown. A sound bath offers the opportunity to pause, whether you find it in person at a yoga studio or meditation center, or online during a virtual sound bath. The vibrations generated in a gong bath help to “bring your body into harmony” and thus help restore harmony and resonance throughout your body. There is a lot of research on the healing benefits of sound therapy, although studies on sound baths specifically are more limited.
