Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Insomnia (CBT-I) is a specialized form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for clients who suffer from sleep disorders. If the therapist is connected with your insurance, you only pay a co-payment for each session after you’ve reached your annual deductible.

Does

insurance cover CBT for sleep disorders?

CBT-I is the recommended first-line treatment for sleep disorders, as research is largely in their favor. For cognitive behavioral therapy for sleep disorders (CBT-I), I usually suggest meeting once a week for at least the first 3-4 sessions. The cognitive part of CBT-I teaches you to identify and change beliefs that affect your ability to sleep. I can’t promise anything and I’ve unfortunately seen people continue to suffer from sleep problems despite CBT-I, but what I can say is that if you haven’t tried CBT-I, you should.

In some cases, people choose to pay for therapeutic services out of pocket rather than seek coverage through their insurer. However, therapists with the behavioral sleep medicine certification are best suited to provide CBT-i training.
