Have you ever knitted? You know how relaxing it can be. That’s because knitting activates nearly the entire brain at once – the frontal lobes for attention and planning, the parietal lobes for sensory information and spatial navigation, and the occipital lobes for visual perception and memory storage.

Knitting’s rhythmical motions, often compared to meditation, have been found to help stimulate serotonin release – a chemical transmitter responsible for managing anxiety and depression. Low levels of this neurotransmitter have been linked to depression and chronic pain; increasing its amount in your brain may make you feel happier and healthier overall.

Furthermore, the texture and color of the yarn may have an even stronger influence over how well-tempered you become when knitting.

Stitchlinks recently conducted a survey of over 3,500 knitters worldwide and discovered that those who knit regularly experienced greater levels of peace. By knitting regularly, people found that it reduced their anxiety and lifted their moods.
