Lower Back Pain Light Therapy

At a treatment session, therapists utilize light therapy and exercises to help patients reduce pain. The exercises are tailored towards each person’s individual weak spots to restore proper muscle control and reduce the likelihood of future low back discomfort.

Light therapy for lower back pain activates several logical processes that promote healing of muscles, tendons, ligaments and intervertebral discs by increasing collagen production within these tissues while causing no scar tissue to form. This helps these tissues heal quickly and stronger without creating scar tissue.

Additionally, exercise increases circulation by activating nitric oxide – a natural anti-inflammatory. This allows cells to take in more nutrient-rich blood, speeding healing and relieving pain.

Light therapy can be utilized on its own as a stand-in treatment or combined with other treatments during sessions at physical therapy clinics, medical spas, chiropractic offices or home. In these treatments, patients lie or sit on pads containing diodes of red and near infrared light that are directly placed on or above the skin where pain is felt.

LED light therapy offers a non-invasive, drug-free alternative to pain medications and surgeries for conditions such as fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and headaches. It can be used at any stage of recovery from surgery or other forms of pain relief and may even accelerate healing time for those just starting out on their journey towards healing from these treatments.

Many patients are surprised to know that low-level light therapy (LLLT) can provide them with a safe, drug-free alternative to other pain relieving methods like oral medication, injectable medication, physical therapy and surgery. Studies have demonstrated that LLLT increases ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy your muscles require for function; it also suppresses inflammation and speeds up ATP delivery to the injured area.
