Panic Attack Definition – What is a Panic Attack?
Panic attacks are sudden bouts of intense fear that cause physical symptoms like chest pain, difficulty breathing or a fast heart rate. Dizziness or shaking may also occur. These symptoms usually peak within 10 minutes and then subside.
Panic attacks are commonly experienced by those suffering from mental health conditions like anxiety disorders or depression. While they can be caused by specific events, most often they come as a surprise and occur without apparent cause.
