Products Sold For Alternative Therapy Top $37 Billion in 2015

According to data released by the US Department of Health and Human Services in 2015, CAM sales totaled $37 billion – an increase from 2012’s $29 billion figure. This includes both products used for treating illness such as vitamins and supplements, along with services like massages or acupuncture that further facilitate this purpose.

The most evident and unsurprising result of this growth is that nearly half of Americans now use some form of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) to treat their chronic illnesses.

One of the biggest obstacles facing healthcare is ensuring consumers make wise choices and aren’t duped into spending more than necessary or on treatments which don’t deliver results.

Fortunately, there are a few helpful resources to assist with research and point you in the right direction. Your primary care physician or pharmacist are likely the best place to start for expert advice about appropriate and effective therapies tailored for your individual needs. Furthermore, there is an increasing number of consumer education programs designed to enable individuals to make wiser decisions about which medications–including complementary ones–work best for them.
