Somatic therapy in Philadelphia is a holistic approach to mental health that treats the whole person. If the client feels uncomfortable discussing their feelings, they can often lie on a table or chair and let the therapist use touch to feel any physical sensations associated with traumatic memory. This is an effective way of getting rid of any negative emotions stored in the body.

The therapist may ask the client to touch various parts of their body and, if they feel comfortable doing so, may instruct them to relax and breathe deeply. At this point, the therapist can assess if the patient is ready to proceed to the next step and determine what needs to be done next.

The therapist will then have the client move into various positions and explore physical sensations associated with their trauma. These exercises are meant to help release any pain stored up inside of them, enabling them to move on with life as a result of this work.
