The Benefits of Sound Therapy in Spas and Wellness Centers

Sound therapy is one of the oldest forms of healing known to humanity. It can help soothe anxiety, ease pain and even heal bones and diseases. Nature sounds have been found to have a soothing effect on children and adults with mental health issues, including autism. Researchers discovered that exposing people to recordings of forest and ocean sounds increased levels of serotonin in their brains–a natural neurotransmitter responsible for feelings of relaxation and contentment.

According to a study from Michigan State University, sound is amplified when played in an environment such as a park or garden. Therefore, those who seek quiet places and nature lovers alike should ensure they are exposed to suitable sounds during their leisure time.

This study sought to compare the effects of two distinct nature sounds – rustling trees and crashing waves – on participants who had never before heard them. They tested participants’ moods and physical responses to these sounds as well as their capacity for sustained concentration on tasks.

Participants who heard the rustling trees reported an improved emotional response and greater focus on task completion. Furthermore, these individuals experienced more reduction in tinnitus than other participants.

Some people believe that nature sounds are more effective for those who grew up in forests or other environments where the noise level wasn’t as loud, however this does not appear to be the case. This is because familiarity with and exposure to these sounds depend on a person’s level of exposure and environment in which they are heard.

These sounds have calming and relaxing effects similar to meditation or deep breathing exercises. All of these are beneficial for body, mind, and soul – no wonder why they’re used in so many spas around the world!

Nature sounds can also help promote relaxation and restful sleep. A study conducted on patients in coronary care units demonstrated that nature sounds were effective at improving their sleep quality, decreasing awakenings and time spent awake. Furthermore, they reduced the amount of pain experienced while sleeping due to reduced cortisol levels – a hormone responsible for stress and irritability.
