The Controversy of Alternative Medical Therapies

A major debate in the medical community centers on whether alternative medical therapies actually work. In some instances, yes. But for the majority of patients, no.

Alternative medicine’s popularity has skyrocketed in recent years, to such an extent that many hospitals and medical schools now include it as a key part of their healing programs.

Though these alternatives have seen an uptick in usage, there remains controversy over their efficacy and safety. Some remain deemed quack remedies, with most doctors remaining dismissive of them.

Doctors claim this is due to a lack of scientific proof about the efficacy of alternative therapies. Therefore, they feel it is their duty to protect the public from unscrupulous practitioners who would only aim to take advantage of unsuspecting consumers by defrauding them out of their money.

However, there is a small group of doctors who are willing to consider alternative treatments because they recognize their patients’ need for an alternate solution and believe it is important to try to meet those demands.

These doctors have become advocates for alternative therapies in the hopes that they can improve their patients’ health status and quality of life. If they can assist their patients in reaching these objectives, then they will likely be much more satisfied with their conventional medical care.
