These products combine the benefits of a hearing aid with these other sound therapies and are specifically designed for tinnitus patients with measurable hearing loss. Here we report on the development and evaluation of “constraint-induced sound therapy,” which is based on an established neurorehabilitative approach and is characterized by clogging the intact ear (“constraint”) and the simultaneous, comprehensive stimulation of the affected ear with music. Further studies are needed to investigate the effectiveness of CIST in SSHL patients with severe and profound hearing loss. Furthermore, brain activity measured in a subset of patients suggested that coercive induced sound therapy could have prevented maladaptive reorganization of the auditory cortex.

How long does it take for sound therapy to work?

Tailored sound therapy includes (a) Heidelberg neuromusic therapy (HNMT), (b) tailored notched music training (TMNMT), (c) tinnitus therapy with pitch adjustment, (d) acoustically coordinated reset neuromodulation therapy (CR), (e) neuromonic tinnitus therapy (NTT), (f) modulated wave therapy and (g) auditory differentiation training (ADT). Although the incidence of tinnitus is usually consistent with the frequency of hearing loss, studies have shown that whether or not the frequency of the irritating sound matches the frequency of the hearing loss has no significant effect on the effectiveness of treatment. For two decades, sound therapy and other tinnitus treatment options (such as TRT) have been introduced to help people living with tinnitus hear better and experience lasting relief. After three months of treatment, patients with all three types of sound therapy reported that they were less bothered by ringing in the ears.
