About 5% of the singing bowls were very small Thadobati bowls, about 4.5 inches tall and 0.5 pounds in weight. The singing bowls (bells) were the main instrument played during the meditations and was played around 95% of the time, while the additional instruments were played around 5% of the meditation session. A standing bell or resting curl is an upturned bell that is supported from below with the edge facing upwards. The authors investigated the possibility that simply lying down and listening to the high-intensity, low-frequency combination of singing bowls, gongs and bells in a sound meditation could trigger a deep relaxation response and positively influence mood and well-being.

In summary, this observational study found significant positive effects of Tibetan singing bowl meditations on a number of markers associated with well-being.

How do you use a Tibetan singing bowl for healing?

At first, the hammer will be smooth on both ends, but when you use it, it forms “microgrooves” that help hold the edge of the bowl better. When you play your ball using the rimming method, the racket’s friction creates vibrations that result in noise. Alternatively, you can place the bowl in the palm of your hand or on your fingertips, as described in the rimming instructions above. To play the rim of a large singing bowl, you can either leave the bowl on the pillow or hold it in your hand.
