The story of Nada Yoga begins before the creation of the universe itself with the pure and absolute silence of Nirgun Brahman, the source of all sounds (pure consciousness). In Nada Yoga, you achieve unity through the flow of sound. Together with the teachings of Ramana Maharshi, Jnana Yoga and Atma Vichara, I have already understood that the Nada is pointing at me, the one who is AWARE of listening to him and hearing the sound of silence, as Ajahn Amaro calls it.

What is the Nada sound?

When a person tries not to create anything on the body level through the conscious mind, but some parts of the body are still active due to the subconscious mind, the body goes to restful relaxation (but not the same as sleeping), to be still, such as sitting in a posture, focusing on sounds or vibrations and achieving inner peace, is the practice of Nada meditation. Nada yoga is the process of uniting the individual mind with cosmic consciousness through the flow of sounds. Since all other sounds were created and are an extension of Aum, a Nada Yogi can turn any sound into a tool to achieve the original sound Aum.

How do you practice Nada Yoga?

According to traditional Nada Yoga schools, the inner sound of a Murli (flute) or a Veena is part of the conscious sphere in which Dwait Bhava or the duality of consciousness ceases to exist. Music can be used to adjust the mind to the finest vibrations and thus prepare for the transcendental Nada. Focus all of your attention on the sounds of the music, and when thoughts arise, refocus on the music or ahata nada. As you experiment with various Nada Yoga practices, you may also discover that sound is actually a powerful gateway to the Great Mystery.
