What is Anxiety?
Anxiety is a feeling of unease that arises when one has fearful thoughts. It may be experienced by people suffering from mental illnesses as a milder version of panic.
Like many mental health disorders, anxiety can be treated if detected early. The best way to do this is by visiting a doctor or mental health provider for an assessment and treatment plan.
The cause of anxiety is still unknown, but it could be related to your life experiences or personality traits. Additionally, certain medical conditions or medications may contribute to anxiety as well.
Can be caused by a past traumatic event or stress caused by illness, work/school problems or the death of a family member. Children who have experienced abuse or trauma or witnessed one may be more prone to developing symptoms associated with post traumatic stress.
In addition to these types of anxiety, there are other disorders characterized by intense fear and worry. These include generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder (social phobia) and specific phobias.
Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder that requires individuals to avoid situations which cause them to feel trapped or helpless. This could include fears of being alone, as well as specific places or objects like cars.
Separation anxiety is an anxiety disorder that affects children who are separated from their parents or other people with parental roles. It can have a significant impact on their academic, occupational and social lives.
