What Is Neurotherapy?

Neurotherapy is a drug-free therapeutic technique that utilizes technological tools to help people improve brain functions. These treatments are typically performed in a clinical setting by qualified practitioners and are generally non-invasive, safe and painless.

Neurotherapy is available and effective for various conditions. Generally, it has been demonstrated to be successful in treating mental health disorders and substance abuse problems.

A neurotherapy session aims to teach patients how to regulate their own brainwave frequencies by attaching sensors on the scalp and displaying the patient’s activity on an electroencephalogram (EEG) machine.

These devices measure brainwave patterns to provide feedback about a patient’s current levels of relaxation and alertness. With practice, patients can learn to alter these brainwave patterns for a more pleasant experience.

During a neurotherapy session, the patient plays an EEG game or other exercise to display their brainwave activity on an EEG machine. When these waves reach optimal frequency, treatment will commence; if not, it will end.

This is an effective and safe way to treat conditions such as anxiety, depression, substance addiction, ADD/ADHD, and impulsivity. Not only does it reduce negative thoughts and improve moods; but it also boosts overall well-being.

Studies have demonstrated the efficacy of neurotherapy in rewiring neural pathways related to various addictions, including cocaine and alcohol. Furthermore, these effects appear to be long-lasting.
