What Is Sound Therapy?

Sound therapy is an invaluable aid for people who struggle with listening, learning and communicating. It has the potential to alleviate a variety of problems and disorders like autism, ADHD, dyslexia and hearing loss.

The Tomatis Method is an audio-based training technique that utilizes sound and music to stimulate the ear through both air conduction and bone conduction. This combination is intended to help retrain your auditory system so it can process sounds more efficiently.

Training has been shown to be particularly helpful for individuals with ADHD, learning disabilities, speech problems and auditory processing disorder (APD).

Tomatis realized the best singers had an exceptional capacity to hear different frequencies within their voice. He also noticed that people with filtered sound could regain lost frequencies within their voices when exposed to filtered audio. This insight inspired him to develop an electronic ear which he used for filtering and training people with various challenges in hearing.

Listening is a fundamental skill in developing and maintaining relationships within your family, at work, or anywhere else you interact with others. It helps you focus on the positive and avoid falling back into self-destructive habits that make life more challenging.

Additionally, stress reduction can be beneficial in combatting stress – one of the primary causes of breakdowns within families and workplaces. By controlling your stress levels, you’ll be able to maintain healthy relationships and lead a more focused and contented life.

The Tomatis Method utilizes a special type of earphone called the TalksUp(r). This device enables both air and bone conduction to be used simultaneously, providing constant stimulation to the brain that would not be possible with normal ears.

For the Tomatis program, users are required to wear headphones and sit in front of the Tomatis device for 15 minutes a day for six or ten weeks. The TalksUp(r) can be utilized alone or combined with other treatments like acupuncture or massage therapy in order to accelerate progress toward treatment goals.

After some practice with TalksUp(r), an alternative listening device called Forbrain(r) can be used in place of it to strengthen auditory processing.

This device can be purchased by anyone and it’s highly recommended to add one in addition to your TalksUp(r) for home use after completing the Tomatis program.

Many individuals with ADHD or learning difficulties find that tomatis sound therapy helps them focus on their studies. It provides them with a strong foundation for learning and encourages them to become more independent learners.

The Tomatis method can be beneficial to those suffering from insomnia and sleep disorders, as well as tenseness in the spinal column. Furthermore, it could potentially benefit those living with chronic pain or musculoskeletal conditions like tennis elbow, osteoarthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome.
