How effective is sound therapy for tinnitus?

In most cases, sound therapy combined with tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT) can effectively treat tinnitus. We conducted a Bayesian NMA to compare multiple sound therapies by combining direct and indirect evidence of relative treatment effects. Similarly, patients who received the bedside noise device were asked to choose a pleasant sound and volume. You can hear sounds like white noise (different audio frequencies are played simultaneously), pink noise (a milder version of white noise), natural water sounds, crickets, and other soothing sounds.

Tinnitus is the perception of sounds that have no source outside the head, and it is often caused by loud noise.

How long does it take for sound therapy to work?

For one thing, the high-frequency sounds are so subtle that they wouldn’t reach the ear at all if they weren’t played directly into the ear. The progressive filtering reflects the natural sound heard in the womb, where the high frequencies are raised and the brain is energized, gradually training the ear and brain to higher gymnastic and acoustic heights. If your inner ear mechanism (the cochlea) has been destroyed or removed, sound therapy cannot give you hearing in that ear. This is done with the intention of mitigating the secondary response mediated by the limbic system, which is thought to make an important contribution to the emotional disorders associated with tinnitus.
