During a sound healing session or a Tibetan sound massage with Tibetan singing bowls, singing bowls are placed on and around the human body and act as “tuning forks” that restore the healthy and harmonious vibration of the chakras.

What is Tibetan sound healing?

That is probably why, many years after this hike, while learning sound therapy, I held my first handmade healing bowl made from certain alloyed metals, I looked into my bowl and had this strange, inexplicable feeling as if my whole life was whirling through this bowl. In the surviving texts, however, there is no historical reference to the existence and use of Tibetan bowls for two main reasons. A sound bath is a session in which participants lie on the floor and are “bathed” by soothing therapeutic sounds of various sound healing instruments, including Tibetan singing bowls, crystal bowls, gong, Native American drum, monochord, energy games, voice, and more. The exact origin of the Tibetan singing bowl is disputed, although there is some evidence that it may have originated in China sometime around the 16th century BC.

Why does Tibetan music heal?

In addition, some wellness practitioners (including music therapists, massage therapists, and yoga therapists) use Tibetan singing bowls during treatment. Very few scientific studies have investigated the potential benefits of Tibetan singing bowls, although they have been used for a long time. While advocates suggest that Tibetan singing bowls can have a wide range of positive effects, including reducing stress, lowering blood pressure, and helping to relieve pain, more research is needed. The sound of Tibetan singing bowls and the gong harmonizes and enables deep relaxation of both sides of the brain.

Although the use of Tibetan singing bowls is generally considered safe, there is little research on the potential risks and side effects of this type of treatment.
