As I slowly climbed up the sloping levels of the rotunda and noticed the acoustic changes, I noticed another way of experiencing this piece as a mindful, walking sound meditation. Sound is a powerful force that can not only provide a sense of peace and well-being, but can also make people love, cry, and in some cases even kill. The site-specific performance within the architecture of the spiral-shaped rotunda created a unique meditative sound experience. Atoui’s work shows us the joy of being in the active presence of sound, which is perceived visually, tactilely and acoustically in its entirety.
Can sounds heal the brain?
While there are many types of sound healing, each offers a wide variety of benefits that can improve your well-being, energy levels, and performance at work. Tibetan monks use singing bowls that they believe are “a symbol of the unknowable, whose” vibrations have been described as the sound of the manifesting universe. The strange beat in the center of this optical illusion is best heard with a pair of good headphones to drown out annoying noises. Sound healing can help you release energetic blockages and thus facilitate healing on a physical and mental level.
